Well I remember – as a boy in suburban Cupertino – walking a few houses up to a daisy border that always seemed alive with insects on a sunny day, where I first collected insects. One of my most vivid memories of youngest childhood was the day I discovered pillbugs and sowbugs in the backyard, pushing away the grass at the edge of the patio – it was a turning point in my young life, I suppose, pointing to the study of biology. And then there was the thrill of turning over a piece of wood in the backyard and finding two baby California kingsnakes!
Such memories mark the beginning of a lifelong concern for fostering and nurturing wildlife in our gardens, landscapes, and built environments. This Web site aims to help people create gardens and landscapes that teem with life!
